Mary Wood Obituary

Mary E. Wood
February 16, 1930 – April 12, 2024

Mary E. Wood, 94, of Little Falls, NJ passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on April 12, 2024.
Born February 16, 1930 in Newark, NJ she was raised in Jersey City and Kearny, NJ. Mary was the daughter of Irish immigrants; the late John and Eileen Magee (nee Costello).
She resided in Belleville, NJ for 33 years before moving to Little Falls 36 years ago. She graduated from Kearny High School in 1947 and shortly thereafter, began her career at Bamberger’s in Bloomfield, NJ where she was secretary of the co- workers association. She later moved on to Tri-Chem Inc., a crafts manufacturer as an event planner. This opportunity sparked her interest in travel and she was fortunate enough to have trekked during her lifetime to many interesting cities and countries throughout the world including several trips to Ireland to revisit her ancestry. One of her favorite places to visit was the annual beach vacation with family to Martha’s Vineyard.
She was a talented artist and loved tending her home garden. She remained active her entire life- shopping, driving to the grocery store, or meeting her friends or her sister Betty for lunch to catch up on things. She helped improve
the community as a member of the Little Falls ABC for many years.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Walter “Woody” Wood for 50 years; loving mother of Maureen Andrews (husband Chuck) and Brian Wood (wife Lisa). She had five grandchildren she greatly cherished- Chip Andrews, Cori Bravard (nee Andrews), Erin Andrews, Kelly Wood and Connor Wood. She is also survived by her dear sister Elizabeth (Betty) Skelly.
Per her wishes, a celebration of her life was held with family, to be followed by a private service at a later date.
