Balford “Fire” Lewis
September 21, 1952 – August 11, 2025
Balford Lewis, lovingly known as “Fire” or “Uncle Bally”, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, surrounded by family. He was 72 years old.
Born on September 21, 1952, in Craig Town, Jamaica, West Indies, Fire was the youngest of twelve children to the late Magnus Lewis and Mabel Lewis (née Daley). A man of deep faith and unwavering work ethic, he built his career as an electrician and was known for his dedication, generosity, and love for children. His warmth and humor touched everyone he met, and his roots in Jamaica remained a cherished part of his identity throughout his life.
Fire is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Lewis; his stepson, Moises Birriel III; his stepdaughter, Danielle Birriel Blake, and her husband, Jason Blake; his treasured grandchildren, Dora Birriel, Jason Blake Jr., and Dylan Blake; his brother, Brassington Lewis; and his grandnephew, Daniel Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents and many siblings.
Family and friends are invited to gather for the viewing from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Bizub Parker Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Little Falls, NJ. A funeral service, officiated by a priest, will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 712 Grove Street, Upper Montclair, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Balford’s memory may be made to assist his beloved wife, Kathleen Lewis, during this time. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories of his many selfless acts toward others. Balford “Fire” Lewis will be remembered for his faith, kindness, and the light he brought into the lives of those who knew him.
