John C. Downing, 71, of Little Falls peacefully passed away at home on July 17, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
He was born on February 14, 1950 to Charles and Pauline Downing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (nee Fylstra) of 43 years, cherished daughter, Melissa of Little Falls, beloved son, David and his wife, Jacquelyn of Myrtle Beach, and adorable granddaughter, Penelope. Brother to Paul Downing and his wife Ginger of North Carolina.
John grew up in Westfield graduating Westfield High School in 1968. John served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He earned an AS in Biology at Union Community College. His BS in Biology was achieved at Upsala College, East Orange. John continued his education with his Masters in Physiology at Fairleigh Dickenson University. He was employed by Hoffmann-La Roche as a principal scientist in toxicology for over 30 years. He moved to Little Falls in 1977 when he married Marilyn.
John was devoted to his family, friends, and dog, Libby. He was an active member of the Little Falls United Methodist Church. He was an avid gardener, a skilled handyman, and a gifted craftsman. John loved the beach and the water. He was passionate about sailing. John was a kind and talented man, an animal lover and a happy traveler.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 2-6 PM at Bizub-Parker Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Little Falls. Funeral Service will be Monday, July 26, 2021 at 10 AM at Bizub-Parker Funeral Home. Internment to follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park.
