John S. Smith, Jr., 91, of Woodland Park, died September 26, 2024.
Mr. Smith, known to close friends as Jack, is survived by his wife, the former Marilyn Fletcher; his daughter, Jackalyn Smith and her husband Kenneth Quazza of West Milford; his son, Ted Smith of Woodland Park; his sister Joan Padula of Spencer, NY; his five grandchildren, Kenneth, Jessica, and John Quazza, Maggie Begley, and Michael Smith; and his great-grandchildren, Rylie Quazza and Ian Begley.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by his parents, John and Adelina (nee Gualano) Smith.
Born April 27, 1933 in Paterson, NJ, Jack graduated from Central High School in Paterson in 1951. He attended Rutgers University in Newark where he played baseball and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 1955. Shortly after graduation, Jack was drafted into the United States Army. In that same year, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn. They lived in West Paterson for 65 years.
Through the years, Jack committed his service to household names such as Lipton, A&P, and Block drug until he founded Hy-Test Packaging Corp, eventually moving the business back to his hometown of Paterson, NJ.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 pm at Bizub-Parker Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Little Falls.
